Monarchs in Fourth After First Day of Gate City Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C.  The Methodist men's golf team took on the first day of the Gate City Invitational on Monday, playing a total of 36 holes. After two rounds, the Monarchs sit in fourth place at 12-over par. Methodist's Aiden Spampinato is tied for fourth on the player leaderboard with a two-round total of two-under par.

DAY 1 NOTES
  • Spampinato (-2) was the top Methodist golfer on the day. He sank five birdies in route to recording even par in the first round. He played a cleaner second round, again notching five birdies along the way to a two-under par total.
  • Cameron Cappuzzo (+3) finished out his first round with bogeys on two of his last three holes to drop to two-over par. With three birdies in the second round, he finished at one-over par, for a two-round total of three-over. He's tied for 18th on the player leaderboard.
  • David D'Agostino (+6) recorded five bogeys in the first round and a five-over par score on the round. He significantly improved his second-round performance, sinking three birdies to lift him to a one-over par round-two total.
  • Haden Ruby (+6) battled his way to a six-over par score in round one. He had an electric start to the second round, producing an eagle on his second hole. Though he bogeyed his final two holes, Ruby still finished the round at even par – tied for the second-best score by a Monarch in round two.
  •  Cooper Hrabak (+8) had a slow start to the day, recording just one birdie as he racked up a score of eight-over par in the first round. He settled in during the second round, dropping in three birdies to cancel out his bogeys for an even par in round two – tying with Ruby for the second-best round-two total by a Methodist golfer.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday with the first Monarch set to tee off at 9:20 a.m.
