Methodist Athletics Hall of Fame
Alan Dawson was the men's head soccer coach at Methodist from 1987-1995. While at Methodist, Dawson posted an impressive 129-30-1 record with seven consecutive Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and six straight NCAA Division III national tournament appearances. His 1995 Monarch squad was ranked No. 1 in the nation throughout the regular season and finished as NCAA D-III runner-up. Dawson also led the Monarchs to the Sweet 16 in 1990 and 1991 and the Elite Eight in 1992. He was a five-time DIAC Coach of the Year and two-time NCAA D-III South Region Coach of the Year. During his tenure at Methodist, Dawson coached 32 All-South Region players, seven NCAA D-III All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans. Named the head coach at Old Dominion University prior to the 1997 season, Dawson's 23-year record (247-147-41) as the ODU Monarchs' leader includes a program-record win total, 19 winning seasons and 12 appearances in the NCAA D-I national tournament, reaching the third round in 2006 and 2007.
