The 1986 baseball team was the first to reach the 40-win plateau and posted a final record of 43-6. The 43 wins stand as a school record for single-season victories, and the team won the NCAA South Region and advanced to the College World Series. Three Monarchs were named All-Americans at the end of the season, including first team selection Dan Hartline. Tom Austin was named the Conference Coach of the Year and had five players named first team all-conference performers.
