An offensive force for the Monarch women's basketball team from 1989-1993, Daphne Akridge was the first Methodist women's basketball player to garner first team All-Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors. She was a two-time first team selection in 1992 and 1993, and helped lead Methodist to its first DIAC Championship in 1992. In addition, Akridge holds Methodist career records for points scored (1,458), made field goals (556) and made free throws (338), plus single-season records for points scored (466) and free throws (144). Twice in her career Akridge paced the team in assists (1991-92, 135; 1992-93,102) and in steals (1989-90, 54; 1992-93, 67). She is the third member of the women's basketball program to earn induction into the Hall.
